AI Vision extracts RGB from each ramp patch and the strip pad. Engine applies Cheung 2004 polynomial color correction — strips out camera + light bias. Lab-space interpolation.
Verify
5 quality gates: AI confidence, ΔE94, engine ⋈ AI cross-check, ramp monotonic, strip in-range. All pass to record. Any fail rejects, asks for retake.
Color measurement isn't a guess. Software shouldn't guess either.
Published science
Cheung et al. 2004 — "Polynomial-based modelling of camera response." An 11-coefficient polynomial regression strips camera color errors. Same algorithm as the academic reference; we didn't make it up.
Cross-validation
Engine (classical color science) + AI Vision (image model) compute the same strip via two independent methods. If they disagree, the user never sees a result. A trust layer single-method readings can't provide.

Which test strip brands work?
Any brand whose box ramp is visible in the photo works. We've tested heavily with API Master Test, JBL ProAquaTest, Tetra EasyStrips, Hach DPD, Lovibond, Sera, and Pool Master.
Do I need hardware or special lighting?
No. Standard indoor lighting (LED ceiling, daylight) is enough. The pipeline strips camera + light bias with polynomial color correction — you just frame the strip + ramp together.
What does ±5% accuracy mean?
For 3 validated chemicals (free chlorine, chlorine dioxide, pH), against lab reference strips, results land within ±5% of true. The other 6 are still in calibration — the app explicitly labels each as "validated" or "placeholder" so you see exactly which.
Where do my measurements go?
Nowhere. Your full history lives in your phone's local AsyncStorage. Delete the app or tap "Clear all measurements" to wipe instantly. Photos pass briefly through our Vercel edge proxy for AI analysis, never stored anywhere.
